<h3>About <a href="https://himalayas.app/companies/jerseystem">JerseySTEM</a></h3><p><strong>All <a href="https://himalayas.app/companies/jerseystem">JerseySTEM</a> roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.</strong><a href="https://himalayas.app/companies/jerseystem">JerseySTEM</a> is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.</p><p>Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda.Membership is a <strong>minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week </strong>and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.</p><h3>Overview</h3><h3>This is a pro-bono volunteer position.</h3><p>The Engagement Specialist is responsible for fostering connection, commitment, and retention across <a href="https://himalayas.app/companies/jerseystem">JerseySTEM</a>’s volunteer community. This role focuses on building strong relationships, improving the member experience, and ensuring volunteers feel informed, valued, and aligned with <a href="https://himalayas.app/companies/jerseystem">JerseySTEM</a>’s mission. </p><h3>Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Design member engagement strategies to increase volunteer satisfaction, retention, and long-term commitment</li><li>Serve as the main point of contact for members experience and engagement initiatives</li><li>Run regular engagement touchpoints such as onboarding sessions, check-ins, feedback loops, and community meetings</li><li>Partner with department heads to ensure consistent communication and engagement practices across teams</li><li>Identify engagement risks (disengagement, burnout, drop-off) and proactively address them</li><li>Promote a culture of belonging, transparency, collaboration, and appreciation</li><li>Develop engagement programs, rituals, and recognition initiatives</li><li>Collect feedback from members and translate insights into actionable improvements</li><li>Ensure engagement documentation, guidelines, and best practices are clearly defined and shared</li></ul><h3>Qualifications</h3><ul><li>2+ years of experience with engagement projects</li><li>Excellent communication skills, written and verbal</li><li>Highly organized, proactive, and people-oriented</li><li>Ability to influence without authority and collaborate across departments</li><li>Sense of urgency and ownership: engagement issues are addressed quickly</li><li>Experience in HR, People Operations, Community Management, or Volunteer Management is a plus</li><li>Commitment: 6 hours per week for 6 months.</li></ul><h3>This is a pro-bono position.</h3><p>Originally posted on <a href="https://himalayas.app">Himalayas</a></p>
